Captain Dennis Barber
Captain Dennis Barber started his CCSO career as a deputy sheriff.
In July of 2009, Captain Barber was promoted to captain of the patrol division which consists of two patrol shifts consisting of 25 full-time deputy sheriff's. The east shift patrol begins at the Beaufort-Morehead City bridge and moves east to the Cedar Island Ferry. The west shift patrols from the Beaufort-Morehead City bridge and moves west to the Onslow, Craven and Jones county lines.
Over his 10-year career with the CCSO, Captain Barber has been appointed for numerous responsibilities which include preventative patrol, service of civil and criminal processes, supervision of the electronic offender monitoring program and coordinating the Project Lifesaver program.
During the 2011 Annual Sheriff's Awards Ceremony, Captain Barber was presented with the Sheriff's Commendation Award. The award is in recognition of service above and beyond, personal sacrifice and contributions of time and effort in order to substantially improve the community.
