Carteret County deputies have arrested Charles Wesley Chadwick, 23, of 504 Bayview Dr, Harkers Island and Steven Shane Chadwick, 30, of 334 Diamond City Drive, Harkers Island in connection with the breaking, entering, and larceny of prescription medications from one down east pharmacy and the attempted B & E at another on Tuesday 11/17/2015.
Deputies responded to Sea Level pharmacy at 2:30am after an alarm activation and discovered someone attempted to make entry into the business. Approximately one hour later deputies responded to an alarm at Express Care Pharmacy in Otway and discovered the window broken out and numerous controlled substances stolen.
Deputies collected evidence from both locations and were able to connect the suspects to the crime scenes. Both subjects sought medical attention at Carteret Health Care after being involved in a single vehicle accident after the incidents occurred. Detectives were able to recover almost all of the stolen controlled substances and medications.
Both Chadwick’s were each charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony trafficking of opiates, two counts of misdemeanor injury to real property, and one count of felony larceny after breaking and entering. Both are in the Carteret County jail under a $100,000.00 bond and are scheduled for a first court appearance Wednesday morning 11/18/2015.
Sheriff Buck stated “I would like to commend Lt. Tom Maulshagen, Deputy Ivey Eubanks and Detectives Phil Morris and John Guerry for their expedient and efficient investigation of this case. Their quick work ensured that these medications were not further diverted into the community.”
