– CARTERET COUNTY, NC – On Friday March 31, 2017, Carteret County Sheriff’s Office Narcotic Detectives conducted a vehicle stop near Bogue. Detectives contacted the vehicle and could smell an odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and located 28 grams of marijuana and 29 grams of methamphetamine inside the center console of the vehicle.
Detectives arrested Gregory Scott Simone, Jr, 18, Forest Line Drive, Bogue, for felony trafficking in methamphetamine by possession; felony trafficking in methamphetamine by transporting; felony trafficking in methamphetamine by manufacturing and felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana. Simone was transported to the Carteret County Jail and was placed under a $200,000 secured bond.
Based on information received during the investigation, it is believed that Simone has been selling drugs on a consistent basis. During the time detectives were dealing with Simone, his mobile phone was repeatedly receiving multiple text messages with requests to purchase narcotics.
Pictures taken at the scene show the glass shape and consistency of the methamphetamine and is often referred to on the street as “ICE”. The estimated street value of the amount seized is approximately $5,800 and is consistent with methamphetamine manufactured in “Mega Labs” located in Mexico and in America’s southern border states. This product has spread throughout the United States and is quickly becoming an epidemic.
