On 01/14/2017 Carteret County deputies arrested Douglas Gorchess, 49, of 206 Woodland Dr, Peletier and Kimberly Gibson Ketchum, 40, of 825 Wetherington Landing Rd, Stella for burglarizing a residence on Country Club Ct in Newport.
On Saturday approximately 11:00am alert neighbors reported seeing a suspicious male walking around a home at 100 Country Side Court in Newport. Deputies discovered an opened door followed by obvious signs of a burglary. Deputies Mackanic and Nelson were quickly able to obtain a vehicle description of the vehicle and suspects and get the information broadcasted out.
As Sgt. Josh Phillips was responding to the burglary he passed the suspect vehicle on Nine Foot Road. A stop of the vehicle resulted in 158 items of jewelry stuffed in a pillow case later identified by the homeowners who were out of town at the time. In addition, pill bottles with the victim’s name and address were also recovered from the van.
Douglas Gorchess was charged with B & E, Larceny, and Possession of Stolen Goods. Kimberly Gibson Ketchum was charged with B & E, Larceny, Possession of Stolen Goods, Possession of Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and carrying a concealed weapon. Both were each placed on a $50,000 bond and are scheduled for their first court appearance Tuesday, 01/17/2017.
“This is a good example of neighbors watching out for neighbors and reporting suspicious activity”. In this case “the quick thinking of observant neighbors who immediately reported the suspicious activity resulted in this quick arrest” said Sheriff Asa Buck.
